NISO - Fighting homophobia through active citizenship and media education
The Project
The Project
In the NISO project (2011-2012) four organizations from Belgium, Estonia, Italy and the Netherlands work together, led by the Province of Rome. They develop a game for students about human rights and sexual diversity. The direct target groups are students and (inter)national policy makers and politicians. The game helps students to express their voice about human rights, and to fight homophobia in schools and the media. That is why the game is called Voice OUT.
The Game
The Game

The game will be tried out in three schools in each of the four countries (Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Estonia) participating in the project. Each of the groups tries to develop the best and most popular way to do citizenship education about fundamental rights. The winning parties of each school will meet each other during a national conference, where a national winner will be elected. The national winners will then go to Brussels to promote the best practices to the European parliament. The game will be available in 2012. Pilot schools will be approached by the project partners in each country.
Methodology
Methodology
Voice OUT - The core of the game is about how students can deconstruct different types of sterotypes and homophobia in the media. The method is participatory: the students organize the election itself and become aware of how human rights play a role in their daily life and in politics.
